Phenomenal episode, still one of the best. I think back to that scene specifically from 1:15:30 onward all the time, perfect music and timing and such great suspense with the question of Will he tell Takagi? Or does Takagi already know?

I feel like Takagi and Satou have always known Conan and Kudou are one and the same, or at the very least have to know he's not an actual 7 year old boy, but perhaps fear what the truth could be, thus Takagi waits until his death is all but certain to specifically ask, "Who on Earth are you?" He could've just as easily asked him how does a 7 year old become so smart, but his phrasing is a bit too leading for that to be the case. Either way, I'm sure Kudou knows his secret would be safe with either of them, but they themselves would be in danger just by knowing.

Just finished the episode, it’s even more of an emotional rollercoaster than I remember it being. Honestly one of the best episodes in the anime. The interaction between Conan and Takagi in the elevator before the explosion, I was in tears and I already know the outcome! Takagi literally slapping sense into Satou, I CANNOT wait to watch the new movie and I’m curious to see how it stacks up to this episode.

AAAHHHH!!!!! I'm so excited I think I'm going to implode. This is one of my favorite episodes (if not my absolute favorite) in the entire series!!!!! Literally shaking in anticipation!!

I've always really liked the end scene of this episode and how they dealt with all that. Like that Takagi mentioned how Sato trying to shoot the guy would be a bad thing to do, and more revenge driven instead of actual justice. And the way Takagi dealt with Sato after was really nice. It showed that he doesn't just like Sato for her looks and instead likes all of her, and is willing to work with all her trauma.
Would've been nice tho if MEGURE DIDN'T COME IN AND RUIN THE MOMENT

Anyways, here's my mini essay on why I think this episode is really good and why it's my favorite. (Just to clarify, I don't think this episode is the actual best in the series, it's just the one I like the most in terms of enjoyment.) Firstly, Hagiwara and Matsuda's introduction in the flashbacks were good, and it's kinda mind-blowing that Gosho was able to make us like these characters in like 5 minutes. Secondly, Sato and Takagi's (mostly Sato) development is just incredible (and I already love the ship in general). The way Sato was able to get over Matsuda, in a way, was really well done and her deleting the email in the end. And I really liked how Takagi played a big role in it and that the end message WASN'T to plainly forget about Matsuda. And this showed the lengths that both Sato and Takagi are willing to go the protect each other. Thirdly, it felt like one of the movies. I quite like how the movies have more action and the cases are generally more intricate and thought out, and this episode was pretty much like that. The fact that it was basically the length of a movie being a 2 hour special, the big action packed (kinda) climax scenes at the end, the bombs, the almost reveal, the almost kiss, the Shinichi and Ran telepathically calling out each other's names, the sad Conan almost dies part, and the fact that it was focused around particular characters. All it's missing is a recap sequence and an Agasa quiz. The ending song itself even sounds like it could an ending song to a movie. Like it's no wonder I mistakenly thought this was one of the movies back in the day.
The only things I'd wish is that there's more shown like after/ more characters reactions other than Kogoro and Agasa being surprised for a second (which that is already like the movies), and that Sato and Takagi would've ACTUALLY KISSED

Matsuda jumping out of the Ferris wheel car... hmm! not a bad idea! fire departments keep those around... well some do... when they've got to evacuate folks from a few stories up and they can't get everybody out via those long ass truck mounted ladders. stunt men use em all the time in movies. it's a huge inflatable bag and when somebody lands on it, special flap valves open up in the sides n WHOOOSH! the air escapes to dissipate the impact force. plus, it keeps the person landing from bouncing on the cushion like a huge boundy boundy castle. :> the thing is, i'm unsure how high UP you can be and safely land on one of those. that is a pretty damn tall Ferris wheel.

but the sequence of events would have to be tweaked slightly to use one of those cushions. the control room for the wheel had one small explosion that kept the wheel turning slowly. yet people could still hop off the cars as they approached the ground. then Matsuda hops on car 72 and after it is up in the air the bomber remote blows a second bigger bomb in the control room and that one freezes car 72 way up in the air.

if there was enough time to A. get a bag to the location. B. put the bag in place. C. inflate the bugger quickly enough (they use huge electric fans, not air-compressors). D. Matsuda wouldn't have died there and the entire impact of him getting blown up seconds after sending the 'next bomber's hint!' couldn't have happened. :D

mhm Takagi hopping onto that elevator car was quite IFFY at best. maybe if he dove in quickly right as the car started to quiver from that cable cutter explosive.

yup, i totes agree about the smooch... Megure's pun about 'is he kizu?' (injured) and them responding 'no we weren't kissu!' (smooching) would have been even funnier if they HAD smooched a little bit... and Megure stormed into the alley a bit AFTER they separated.

hellls to the yes! Sato-chan goin all Wonder fucking Woman in her knee length skirt and low heels!

plus, how'd the dude get UP from hopping off the side of a moving bus and going ass over teakettle... at least four times i saw him tumble along the road... n how'd he avoid getting HIT by any of those cars in the parallel lane?! :o it was a cool foot chase but not the best one i've seen yet on Conan.

i actually haven't watched any of the movies yet. i'm waiting till i get alot deeper into the TV series. ;) i'm not even to the 'half-way to the new episodes' point yet. :D maybe after i've hit the 520's i'll check out the movies. :D

Yeah, I'd recommend watching the movies later. I did that with my first watch through, it was nice cuz I could pretty much watch any of the beginning movies without worrying about how far I am in the show. Also don't expect them to be too realistic.. Some of the action scenes, especially in the later movies, Conan would be dead 10 times over by now

I also thought that maybe he could just jump out of the ferris wheel but I realized, there is a mercury lever. Opening the door takes a few seconds so he will still be caught with the explosion. opening the door ahead after seeing the mercury lever is also not a good idea because his movements might trigger the bomb. so it's like either he gets a fatal injury and die later on, on the hospital, or just be dead right away :(( Gosho Aoyama really wanted him dead *cries*

1:19:33, Kogoro's face when he saw his freeloader (child) was the one to diffuse the bomb. How did Conan figure that out, he's so smart, I would have just died. I hope his parents called him after this, something like that would be so traumatising. Shinichi needs therapy, a ton of DCMK charcaters probably need therapy after all they've seen. This epiosde was really, really good though, I hope there are more like it in the future.
